In this series we will explore an arrangement of fundraising ideas to raise money for traveling. First off, we will focus on babysitting one of my favorite jobs to raise money for abroad. Summer is coming up so nannying and babysitting is high in demand. We will cover everything from advertising to activities to participate in.
1) First of all let's talk advertising and marketing: Finding an effective platform to get the word out that you are available to work can be tricky. Try starting within the girl scout community. Advertise to younger troops moms through events and Girl Scout camps. Talk to neighbors, family, and friends. Find a catchy slogan and message. What makes you different than other babysitters? Think of your accomplishments in the Girl Scout community. Are you first aid or CPR certified? Accomplishments such as these, could set you aside and make you stand out. Use bright colors and other strategies to make your flyer pop out.
Below are some flyer examples to get you thinking: notice the ones that stick out and the ones you like

2) Activities: You got the job now what? perhaps you have to occupy the kid for multiple hours a day. What activities will keep them busy? From my experience here are some of kids favorite activities.
* Scavenger hunt/treasure hunt particularly ages 5-12. (great for those learning how to read) - try hiding clues around the house that lead to a end goal such as a piece of candy or toy. The kids love the process of searching around the house make them increasingly harder as they get better and better. Each clue is hidden in spot and leads to another spot with another clue. So many different combos and the kids love it.

* ultimate game championships- pick a few games and see who is able to win the most games.
* get outdoors- try getting them outside for a hike, walk, or games. These activities could include jump rope, hopscotch, sidewalk chalk, picnic, or other activities that could be fun.
3) snack time- get creative in the kitchen
* popcorn/ pirates booty animal shapes- try to spot animals in the food shapes
* odd food creations- got some food to use up. Combine these foods into odd food creation and have the kids try to guess what is in the creation with blind food testing. The kids if old enough can even try making you a fun creation. Just try to make the things go well together. (examples of good combos: Nutella, pretzels, and raisins...)
Overall these are a few ideas for the next time you babysit. You can use these proceeds earned from leading kids in these activities to travel. So next time you babysit try these techniques.
