Whether traveling with one bag or many, it is important to pack efficiently. By saving space in your bag, you can leave more room for souvenirs or extra cargo. Regardless one should be mindful of how they pack before the big trip.

1) Plan out outfits using itinerary

To reduce the mistake of over or under packing, take a look at your itinerary. Look at what you will be doing each day. Pick an outfit that complements the activity you will do that day. Be mindful to bring a bit extra in case of poor weather. Think about whether you will need one or more outfits for that day. For example, if you will be hiking that day chose something suitable for exercising in. If you will be going to a play, pack a nice outfit for that day. If your gonna be hiking in the morning but going to a play in the evening keep that in mind. Lay out the outfit in accordance to each day. This way you already have what you are wearing each day ahead of time. When packing, put the stuff your gonna be wearing near the beginning of the trip on top. This way you can easily access it.

2) Think about if you can wash clothes on trip

Keep in mind whether or not you will be able to wash your clothes on your trip. If not bring extra cloths. If you can, you can reuse clothes to save room. Bring a trash bag for dirty clothes so they do not mix with your clean.

3) Toiletries in plastic bag.

Place all your toiletries in a plastic bag,. This way when they get tossed and turned during transportation they will not spill on your clothes. Also when you need to access them, they will all be in one place. Place this near the top of the bag or in a separate bag all together so they can be easily accessed. Keep in mind TSA limits on liquids, 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less.

4) Use space inside your shoes.

Place socks, small clothes, jewelry, or other items in your shoes in your luggage bag. This way, the space will not go wasted.

5) Keep weather in mind

Think about the expected weather. Are you going to a place that often rains or is it mostly dry? Is it cold often or hot? If you can check the forecast for the time you will be away. Do not rely on it, but rather use it for reference.

6) Remember Souvenirs

If you plan on bringing back extras, leave extra room for the return trip. Think about what you want to get and the size of it. Even place an extra empty small fold-able bag in your bag in case you need another.

7) Think about sleeping arrangements

If you're camping remember sleeping bag, pillow, sheets... Research effective ways to minimize the space each takes up. Watch this video on how to pack for a camping trip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F--HMfS7L5Q

8) Place heavier items on the bottom of the bag (near the wheels of a suitcase)

This way when you are rolling you bag, it has better stability and balance.

9) Keep important documents together and hidden

Keep money, passport, maps, tickets, important stuff... together. Try a body pack that can be tucked under your shirt.

10) Keep in mind dress code

Some churches requires shoulders to be covered. Shaws and scarves can be a good tool to carry. Some places also want you to wear your GS uniform. Some groups have designated travel uniforms. make sure you are aware of these travel outfits.

11) Don't wait to the last minute to pack

Packing takes time. Do not put it off. Be prepared and think ahead.
