Beauty of Woodlands and Local Exploration

Recently I got to spend some fresh air at Camp Woodlands. Although I live close to Woodlands and I have spent a great deal of time there, I never fully let myself wander and explore the crevices.

Woodlands is one of the four current camps in GSCM settled slightly outside of Annapolis. This 34 acre camp has plenty of recent additions including a little library, a poetry trail, a native species garden, and much more. Not to mention other notable sights such as Lamb‘s Lodge (Tee Pee), Starlet, Point of View, and other facilities. The camp has water access and of course plenty of trees.

I enjoyed wandering through the many trails and found new spots I had not found before.

This excursion made me recognize a few takeaways. 1) You can always find something new, even in places you think you know well. 2) Fresh air does wonders for curiosity. 3) Protecting our camps is more important now than ever.

I challenge each and every Girl Scout, adventurer, or explorer to look for sights beyond expectation. Often time, we believe traveling has to be far away or new. In reality, travel is the open mind curiosity

that leads you to experience an emotion, a place, a culture, or something that one previously did not witness. No matter how well one may think they know their hometown, local camp, or city, their is still more to explore and learn! Look for it in the small just as much as the large. Look for it close to home just as much as far away.
