Traveling as a Girl Scout offers so many types of travel. Whether locally or internationally it is important to be prepared for travel. Before embarking on a large trip, it is critical to work ones way up the travel scale. This includes trying smaller outings, before embarking on large trips. For younger girls, this is a perfect opportunity to learn about travel. It is important to start with smaller trips, this way one has time to adjust to travel itself before trying to go on longer adventures.

Below is just an example of a way one can work it way up the travel rankings. Note each troop depending on the age is different, but this is one way to practice different levels of travel.

1) Day Trips to local State Parks

For example, as a first time getaway trip, consider a day trip to a local state park. Take field trips to hike and enjoy the outdoors. This is a good opportunity to introduce girls to traveling locally before larger trips.

2) Local City Day trips

Cities tend to be slightly more overwhelming. Travel to towns before working your way up to cities. Practice navigating in crowded spaces and learn what to do if you get separated form the group. Remember buddy system always!

3) Overnight trips

Once one has gotten the hang of traveling for day trips, try staying overnight someplace. Experiment with staying the night in local cabins, campgrounds, tents, or even try camping in ones backyard. This step can prepare girls for trips away from home.

4) Few days Away

After spending the night locally, one could try a few day getaway with the troop. Try a Girl Scout sleep away camp or a few day camping trip. It is important to try these ways of travel before traveling far.

5) Try an out of state overnight

Practice being a bit further from home. Whether camping, staying in a cabin, or staying in a hotel it is good to practice distance before traveling overseas.

6) See the world

When you feel comfortable with both local and out of state travel think about seeing the world. Explore Girl Scout centers around the world and meet Girl Scouts from all over the globe. If you can not see the world, now think about a place you want to travel to when your older.
